One look at a FirstBike and you know it's not your run-of-the-mill balance bike. These composite bikes designed in Germany feature a look that's distinct and the advantage of a frame that will never rust or rot.
FirstBike's are extremely lightweight at just over 7 lbs minus the optional drum brake. The bikes are available in three different models - Cross, Street and Track. The "Street" and "Cross" models feature pneumatic air tires. The "Track" model uses a hard rubber tire. Colors are limited for the FirstBike line. You can get the Street model in blue, green, red or pink, but the Track is only available in Blue and the Cross comes in Red.
The FirstBike seat adjusts from 13.8" to 17.8" but an optional lowering kit brings the seat all the way down to 12" (low enough for most toddlers). That's good, because as one of the lightest bikes on the market, it's a great option for younger kids. The seat can be adjusted easily just by turning a knob. It's solidly constructed and is likely to remind your son or daughter of some of their favorite toys. That's an important benefit when you're introducing your child to learning to ride a bike.
Our Take: We love the style of the FirstBike and its quality parts. While we wish the lowering kit and hand brake came standard, the FirstBike excels as a unique, high quality balance bike that kids are sure to enjoy. It's easy to assemble and built to last.
